Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity was organized at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in late 1902 by a group of undergraduates who were fellow students in chemistry at that time. The founding members are as followed: Raymond Conger, Harold Eggers, Joseph Holty, Alfred Kundert, Edward Mattke, Joseph Mathews, Bart McCormick, Frank Petura, and James Silverthorn. At the core of the fraternity is the tie of brotherhood and friendship through chemistry, as listed in the objects. After 120 years of its founding, 79,000 members have been initiated through the fraternity, including 22 Nobel laureates.
Chapter History
Gamma Beta was initially a colony of the Beta Iota chapter at the University of Florida, but their chapter temporarily became inactive before Gamma Beta could be chartered. The Psi chapter at Louisiana State University then successfully colonized the Gamma Beta chapter, which was then chartered in April 1978. Gamma Beta's founders are as followed: Gregory Choppin, DeLos DeTar, Ralph Dougherty, Warner Hertz, George Levy, Jack Leffler, and Charles Mann.
